I don't think that Leadbelly should cover Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. I don't think that Burl Ives could cover "The Best of Charlie Parker" and I don't think covers of songs are that uncommon in traditional folk music. "Covers" is a pop music term. In folk music, though, if you don't cover a folk song, it ain't folk.
