Thread Name: Origins: Hush little baby, don't say a word
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Mockingbird lullaby
OK, based on what I've read here, I've compiled the definitive version that I will use-- without the confusing carts and animals and their various mishaps. I am all for creativity and organic lyrics, but usually when I am singing this song, I do not have the energy for creativity-- I need mindless poetry.

Hush, little baby. Don't say a word.
Daddy's gonna buy you a mockingbird.

If that mockingbird won't sing,
Daddy's gonna buy you a diamond ring.

If that diamond ring turns brass,
Daddy's gonna buy you a looking glass.

If that looking glass gets broke,
Daddy's gonna buy you a billy goat.

If that billy goat runs away,
Daddy's gonna by you a horse and sleigh.

If that horse and sleigh turn over,
Daddy's gonna buy you a dog named Rover.

If that dog named Rover won't bark,
Daddy's going to buy you a pony and cart.

If that pony and cart fall down,
you'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.

Now, I realize the lyrics are repetitive and meaningless, but they have been doing the job for a long, long time. Who am I to innovate?
