'She's Like a Swallow' is a Newfoundland folk song, though it was derived from several songs of British origin. The distinctive melody and swallow simile are unique to Newfoundland. The song was first collected by Maude Karpeles in the 20s and arranged by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. Because of it was widely taught in the English school system, 'She's Like a Swallow' was thought to originate there.

My favourite recording of the song is by Pamela Morgan and Anita Best, on their 'Colour of Amber' CD. Their web site is:
