I have the song "Massacre of MacPherson" in an old book (circa 1900) that belonged to my father. The covers and title pages are long gone, but if I remember rightly it was called something like "The Scottish Student's Book of Song". It cites "The Bon Gaultier Ballads" published by Blackwood & Sons Edinburgh as the primary source as noted in the previous post.
The version I have contains two additional verses (six and eight) if anyone is interested. The other six are virtually identical to those previously posted.
There is a subtitle "A Highland Legend (from the Gaelic)", and a notation that says, "Both Solo and Chorus must be sung in a droning, nasal manner." Dad used to do a fine job singing this one, and we'd imitate bagpipes on the chorus. Thanks for jogging my memory, I haven't dug this old book out in years.
