If you happen to live in Canada, and you are a folk recording artist, then you stand a pretty good chance of getting featured on college radio, one example being Rick Fieldings weekly Monday night show on CIUT in Toronto, Just one of many that will give the little guy a shot and in a lot of cases a springboard to bigger things. We are also fortunate to have CBC ,the mother of all Canadian radio .Most recording artist will usually get airtime (occasionally the national network, usually the regional linkups) Thank God for CBC and I hope its around for my grandkids to listen to. In some circles they actually call it the "thinking mans radio"
In both of the above mentioned formats, they still do oldies shows (among others) with real live DJs and yes they even discuss what they are playing, and by whom.
I havent listened to comercial radio in years and speaking for myself, I doubt if I'm missing anything.
All the best, Glen
