Here's one from the recesses of the ol' memory banks. I would deeply appreciate a hand in identifying a field recording that I heard 20+ years ago on an old Smithsonian recording (?). It was of a black woman in the South singing a slow mournful wailing version of Diamond Joe. It went something like this:

High up on the mountain 3 feet fall of snow Thought I heard ol Maybelle sing Where you been, my Joe?

Diamond Joe Come and get me (repeats several times) Where you been so long, Joe?

Just guessing at the words as they're hard to make out. Would love a transcipt of the words and the name of the compilation that it appeared on. Thanks!
