You probably know Miss. John Hurt's C-h-i-c-k-e-n
I played it once for a friend who'd heard another short song at camp that went in a medley, or both at once, with the lyrics:
Rufus Rastus Johnson Brown,
What you gonna do when the rent comes down,
What you gonna do, what you gonna say,
Better be ready for the judgement day,
Oh you know I know rent means dough,
Or the landlord'll kick you out in the snow,
Rufus Rastus Johnson Brown,
What you gonna do when the rent comes down?
Oh C, is the way it begins,
H, the next letter in,
I am the third,
C what a seasonly bird
K is to fill him in
E I'm near the N
C h i c k e n, that's the way you spell chicken.

I'm interested in the origin of both songs: I imagine Rufus Rastus emerged from the Harlem Renaissance rent parties.
Any one got any info?
