Rolfyboy6 Ever played a Strat (guitar)? (28) RE: Ever played a Strat 13 Apr 02

I've got a Fernandes strat from the copyist days of the late 70s and early 80s (these are often called "lawsuit" guitars) when Japan made copies as good as the originals. Mine is pretty good.

Like all strats it has it's strengths and weaknesses. Leo Fender was a great designer and in most such cases there are idiosynchracies to the design. the single coil pickups are famous for their trebly sound. The middle pickup is located in a place where it is 'mechanically out of phase' with the others due to string vibration patterns. Leo made some odd choices and came up with an enduring design.

Since he also came up with the Tele, largely invented the electric bass and designed both the Precision Bass and the Jazz Bass, and designed the Jazzmaster and several other electrics still in use, And the amplifiers that are still the standard against which others are measured, his place in lutherie heaven is assured. Every one of his designs has quirks.
