Never met him, but I did meet his pal Mervyn Vincent. Living in London in the mid-60s, Irish sessions were common enough, but I was intrigued when Vic Legg told me about a Cornish session. It was on a Saturday night in a 'Cornish' pub just off Knightsbridge- rugby stuff all over the walls- Redruth in particular, I think? it was, I think, after a big rugby game in London, but it was indeed a Cornish session. Lots of songs & tunes & talk of Charlie Bate -there was a performance of 'Oss 'Oss, involving moving all the pub chairs & tables! I never got to Padstow but did get to the excellent Bodmin club a few times & always remembered Mervyn when I did....
