Unlike me, Mrs Backwoodsperson isn’t given to profanity but, on watching the riots unfold on TV and hearing the lunatic statements being made by some of the rioters - “This is the start of the Second Civil War”, “America wasn’t founded on democracy, it was founded on violent insurrection”, yadda yadda - she turned to me and said “The US is fucked for the next ten years at least”. I think she has a point.
