At a singaround today, somebody asked for an official name of "partner songs." I jumped to this thread and found the term "quodlibet." And I was told that no, that was wrong. And looking it up in Wikipedia, it does appear that quodlibet and partner songs can sometimes be the same thing, but not always. And the article is a good read.
The article on Counterpoint is a good read, too.
