When living in Kent, in the mid-80s, we picked up Johnny in Rye & took him up to the excellent 'Empress of Russia' folk club in Islington- we'll have a 'good old flanagan' he said
   At one stage a pint of 'treacle' (his word for Guinness!) was spilt behind him- my wife Francie grabbed a mop from the bar & stood mopping it up behind him- he didn't see this but she did it in rhythm to the song & there was much giggling in the room.

He turned round, smiled & grabbed the mop & said 'I'll just swab the decks' & carried on with the song.
A lovely man, fine singer & always great fun....
