GUEST,Rossey Fairy Tale of Stornoway (24) RE: Fairy Tale of Stornoway 17 Dec 19

I am a Scottish Highlander, so should get this, but sorry it's dire. The male singing is terrible - though it maybe no doubt due to it being a pastiche. I do hope though they realise that they don't own any part of the copyright and must credit the original writers. This point cropped up recently with the equally dire parody version of Alan Merrill's 'I love rock and roll' which was re-written as 'I Love Sausage Rolls' for LadBaby's release. A registration had to be put through by the publishers under the parody title to protect it - as it still is Alan Merrill's work (with Jake Hooker sadly cut in). Re-writing lyrics as a parody is classed as making an arrangement of a copyright work - so rights still stay with the writers unless you have a deal with the publishers.   Ironically, tomorrow 18th, is the anniversary of Kirsty MacColl's death. They should have let the Pogues version stand as an annual tribute unless covering it in a normal way. This mickey take is in the ear of the beholder.
