McGrath of Harlow Obit: Jean Vanier of l'Arche (1928-2019) (3) Obit: Jean Vanier of l'Arche 16 May 19

I've just been watching a celebration of the life of Jean Vanier, the founder of the l'Arche communities, of which now there are well over 100, in countries all over the world. It took place in Trosly, France, where it all started back in 1964, when he got hold of a house to share with two men with severe disabilities he had rescued from a "subnormality" institution, and turned his back on the promising academic career he'd been building after leaving the Canadian navy, where he'd been a Commander.

He died on May 7th, aged 90, and the celebration and Mass that took place yesterday is on YouTube https://youtu.be/hUM3P61neXU

I don't think you'll be sorry if you watch it. It's got some good tunes too. (And its got an English translation too, which is a lot less intrusive than that kind of thing too often is. If you'd prefer there's another version on YouTube without the translation, should your French be up to it - I'm not sure how they dealt with the Arabic reading.)
