GUEST Lyr Add: Good-bye, My Lover, Good-bye (T H Allen) (32) RE: Lyr Add: Good-bye, My Lover, Good-bye (T H Allen) 22 Apr 19

Thank you all for the input. My 100% Irish-heritage grandmother (born near Boston in 1894) sang this version to me circa 1950:

See the ships go 'round the bend,
Good-bye, my lover, good-bye.
All laden down with Tennessee man.
Good-bye, my lover, good-bye.

Sing a-bye-lo my baby,
Bye-lo, my bouncing baby girl (boy).
Sing a-bye-lo my baby.
Good-bye, my lover, goodbye.
Good-bye, my lover, goodbye.

My Nana lived most of her life in New England. but she did spend a couple of years in Missouri. Also, she had a grandfather who served in the Civil War and could have brought home this song from the South.

I would love to know more about its origins, and the rest of the words to this "Tennessee" version.
