Steve Parkes Origins: Proper Cup of Coffee (69* d) RE: Need Info: Proper Cup of Coffee 18 Jul 18

I was watching BBC 1's "Inside the factory " last night, about manufacturing instant coffee. History lesson: in the First World War, British troops were fuelled by tea, of course; but when the Americans arrived, they could only operate on coffee. One George Washington (no, not that one) invented an instant coffee that was drinkable under wartime conditions. In Britain, we invented Camp Coffee, which was mostly chicory and tasted awful (I couldn't possibly comment; but it's still made).
Listening to this, I began to wonder if this was the inspiration for the song?
