Anglo Chords Req: A Smuggler's Song (Rudyard Kipling) (20) RE: Chords Req: A Smuggler's Song (Rudyard Kipling) 07 May 18

We (John & Tony) sang it if F, with a banjo F tuning. The tune is Peter Bellamy's. The poem (with the "Watch the wall my darling" line) is by Kipling, so it would not have a traditional tune. But like many of his poems, there were musical settings composed in the early 20th century. In the early 60s I kept a notebook of songs I was learning, or thought I might learn, often picked up at my local folk club, the Boat Club at Stourport-on-Severn when I wasn't away at university in Manchester. The Smuggler's Song is in there, from long before Peter made his setting, but I can't for the life of me remember a tune.

The "Watch The Wall" line was also used in the trouser skit in Beyond The Fringe.
