I knew that when I was not yet 10 years old. Didn't know then what it meant but I knew about it. It is in my American Heritage Civil War history book written for kids. Ditto the remark about the songs being the 'most reliable history'. They can be great stuff but not the most reliable history. Especially when the performers go around changing 'a word here and a word there'.
