GUEST,Patricia Lyr Req: Bread and Gravy (23) RE: Lyr Req: Bread and Gravy 12 Oct 10

My late father-in-law was a song & dance man in Vaudeville, and "Slum and Gravy" was what he called his version:

"While traveling all over the country,
We stayed in some fancy hotels.
Some were good, and some were bad,
And some of the rooms were like cells.
Well, the last one we stopped at was a Daisy,
So comfy and cozy and neat.
It's a wonder we didn't go crazy,
For this is what we had to eat.

On Monday, we had bread and gravy,
On Tuesday, 'twas gravy and bread.
On Wednesday and Thursday,
'Twas gravy and toast,
But that's only gravy and bread.
So on Friday we said to the landlord,
Can't you please give us something instead?
So on Saturday morn, just by way of a change,
We got gravy without any bread."
