I've been trying to track this song down for ages, but with no luck. I have no idea who it's by or what it's called (I think the title is not contained in the lyrics). It's probably a 1970s song, though I first came across it in the mid-80s, so it's "folkish" I suspect. The version I know is a solo unaccompanied female voice, though I think the album it comes from is from a band (so maybe think Albion Band or something along those lines).

The song is a melancholy requiem for the English countryside (but it's not "Woodlands of England".

Any help pinning this down would be gratefully received!

These are the lyrics I remember.

"In times of trouble,
Sore and wounded...something something
I look for comfort, for something constant to hand,
And the one that never fails me, the beauty of the land"

I'm a child of cities, concrete, rushing feet,
Something something
But the old railway bridge and the crater left from the war,
Are clothed by nature's ever healing lawn.

So when I sleep the endless sleep,
I hope dreams may come to me of what was sweat,
The beauty of flowers, natures joyous gift given free
And the strength of ancient trees
will be enough for me.
