Zhenya Help: Real name or Mudcat name? (84* d) RE: Help: Real name or Mudcat name? 28 Jun 07

It just never crossed my mind to use my real name when I joined.

At any rate, I don't like my legal first name. My last name is very common, something like the 8th most common surname in the United States, and common worldwide as well. (Shows up in lots of folksongs too, as a profession.) So even with my less common (in the U.S., but apparently much more common in England and Wales) first name, I guess I would have been anonymous enough. (Lots of clues here, for all you riddle fans!)

Since my "pseudo" name is actually a common enough real first name, this seems to sometimes confuse people, who think I am a Zhenya in real life. As explained in an ancient thread here, I acquired this name when I studied Russian, which I did long enough for it to feel like a real first name for me anyway. And that's my ethnic heritage too, so it all fits together.

To further confuse matters, I have been thinking for some years about legally changing my legal first name, probably to an Irish name. (Just because I seem to like a lot of those names.) Will I then have to legally change my Mudcat name?
