John Moulden county Leitrim trad. songs (12) RE: county Leitrim trad. songs 20 Mar 00

Leitrim is not a county which comes to mind instantly in connection with songs. It adjoins Fermanagh however and some of the repertory is shared. The most important traditional singer to have been extensively documented is Thomas Moran of Mohill. Unfortunately, because of the interests of collectors, his repertory is represented mainly by Child and broadside ballad versions.

Recordings of him are in the BBC Sound Archive at the National Sound Archive in London, at the Irish Traditional Music Archive in Dublin and are sold commercially by Folktrax, who will supply. Ulstersongs (www.ulstersongs,com) also has stock and this bit is a plug because I run Ulstersongs.
