Here is another sampling of the range of organizations that offer volunteering.

http://www.redcross.org

A sample of religious orgs:

http://samaritanspurse.org

http://www.irw.org/katrina/ (Islamic)

There are very specialized organizations you can contribute to, such as http://ChefsForHumanity.org

One point about this thread. I don't control what anyone says here, and wouldn't want to, but I want to ask a favor; since there is at least one long and contentious thread about Katrina's political controversies, let's please not swing that debate over to this thread, especially through anonymous personal attacks. My hope is that this thread might inspire you to look into disaster relief volunteering, discuss it, ask questions, and, for those who have been affected by Katrina or who have volunteered, to write about your experiences, and what you feel are the most effective ways to volunteer. I'm certainly not here to toot my own horn (as a matter of fact, could Joe or a JoeClone remove "Chanteyranger" from the thread title? I put that in to differentiate this from previous Katrina threads, but it's not really necessary). Thanks.

Chanteyranger
