Learn something every day. I was not aware of the Texas Alexander recording. I just checked Document Records and they do list a song called "Risin' Sun" on a Texas Alexander reissue. Unfortunately, there was no sample for comparison. Brownie McGhee used to do a song called "Rising Sun" which bore no relationship to "House of the Rising Sun. If the Alexander recording is, in fact, "House of the Rising Sun," it could well be where Ashley got it from.
