Two interesting programmes, first the documentary charting Mayall's life and times with interviews with the great guitarists he's helped to prominence, (strange that Peter Green was absent from this, maybe he wasn't well?). The impression I got was that for him everything else went on around him and despite the distractions (sex, dope, alcohol etc.) he was always together enough to keep the music going through what seems like a kaleidoscope of band personnel. The second programme was a concert in Liverpool with his present band and Mick Taylor and Eric Clapton.Taylor was good but Clapton shone, playing some sublime blues making it look as easy as a stroll in the park, Mayall's regular lead guitar (Henry Trout??? please correct me if I'm wrong ) was almost his equal IMHO. All in all two great programmes and thanks to BBC 4 for presenting them, I think there will be some more great concerts coming our way from this source.
